Andy Kirkpatrick Personal Trainer, Better Gym Belfast

We are delighted to recognise Andy Kirkpatrick as YOUR Personal Training’s Personal Trainer of the Month! Based at Better Gym Belfast, Andy's dedication, expertise, and passion have significantly impacted our community. Here's a closer look at his journey and achievements.

A journey into health & fitness

Andy discovered his love for fitness at a young age. His early gym experiences highlighted a knowledge gap, driving him to become a certified personal trainer. Andy started his fitness career at Fitness First, later acquired by Better Gym in 2016. Initially as a group fitness instructor, Andy honed his skills and confidence, learning from role models like Peter Davison, now his regional director at YOUR PT. His primary goal has always been to help clients achieve their best results, focusing on client care and retention.

Building a Thriving Client Base

Andy began his journey in January 2016. Currently, he manages over 30 active clients, conducting 45-50 sessions weekly. He balances peak and off-peak times effectively, maintaining a strict schedule to ensure a healthy work-life balance. Early lessons in time management and organisation have led to a consistent and positive approach to his business in recent years.

Launching with Determination

Andy's initial weeks were spent immersed in the gym, leveraging YOUR PT resources and setting clear goals. He focused on creating a positive new member experience, building relationships, and establishing a strong reputation. Through persistence, workshops, and activations, he converted interactions into long-term clients. Andy believe in the notion that to become a successful PT you must give more than what you are paid for in the early days as this will set the tone for developing professional and lasting client relationships.

Overcoming Challenges

The COVID-19 pandemic posed significant challenges, reducing Andy’s bookings to zero overnight. He adapted by engaging clients online, essentially moving back to what worked well when starting out as a PT, offering free classes, and organising outdoor bootcamps when restrictions eased. This resilience ensured a swift return to full bookings once gyms reopened.

Achieving Client Success

Andy's aim is to instil lasting lifestyle changes in his clients, emphasising intrinsic benefits and sustainable results.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Andy plans to develop subscription services for both face-to-face and online clients under his brand ‘The Lean Scene.’ These services will include nutritional and physical lifestyle guidance, delivered in 12-week cycles. Andy has carefully reviewed to developments of online coaching in recent years and understands that this is a very lonely game, he believes that he gets as much out of face to face PT mentally and emotionally as his clients and whilst he sees that his optimum goal is of be operating 70% face to face and 30% online, Andy’s belief is that the best interactions and results are gained in person.

A Passion for Helping Others

Andy believes that genuine care for helping people is the cornerstone of a successful career in the health and fitness industry. Monetary motivations should be secondary to the primary goal of client wellbeing and lifestyle change.

We are proud to have Andy Kirkpatrick as part of the YOUR Personal Training. His dedication and excellence in this field make him a standout personal trainer.
