"I didn't fully believe in the products I was selling before, but I absolutely believe in personal training and my ability to help people live healthier lives," says Nate. "It serves my conscience perfectly."
We are thrilled to recognize Nate Gabriel as our Personal Trainer of the Month for October 2024! Nate's dedication, resilience, and inspiring journey make him a standout PT and a well known face around Brooklands Health Club in Sale, Manchester where Nate is based. His story showcases the power of perseverance and the impact of helping others to live healthier lives.
From Football Dreams to Fitness Coaching
Nate's journey into personal training is as dynamic as his workouts. With a background in professional football, Nate started as a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) player, cleaning boots and learning the ropes of the professional game. Unfortunately, an injury in his twenties put an end to his football career. He then found himself working in the banking industry, excelling in sales and account management but feeling unfulfilled.
After a short stint in the fire service, Nate returned to sales, yet his heart wasn’t in it. It was a close friend—a personal trainer—who inspired Nate to pivot. Seeing the positive impact his friend had on clients, Nate decided to pursue fitness as a career, combining his interpersonal skills and passion for healthy living. He started by training friends and family, then formalized his skills by earning his qualifications.

Launching His PT Career
Nate officially launched his personal training career in February 2023. Like many in the fitness industry, his journey faced hurdles—particularly with gym closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. He kept his passion alive through outdoor bootcamps, but when gyms reopened in 2022, it felt like starting from scratch. Nate faced a bit of self-doubt despite having experience, yet his creative ideas, friendliness, and determination helped him rebuild.
He took a personal approach, supporting everyone he came across at the gym—whether they were his clients or not. "I've found that being helpful and kind goes a long way in this industry. It's about leaving a lasting impression on everyone you meet," Nate reflects. His inclusive approach extends to welcoming new members and collaborating with fellow trainers, each specialising in different areas to offer comprehensive fitness support.
Overcoming Challenges Along the Way
Nate's biggest challenge since starting his personal training career has been self-development and overcoming self-doubt. At 45, he faced a setback when an Achilles injury disrupted his training, impacting his mood and routine. However, his commitment to his clients never wavered. "Life threw me a curveball, but I’m grateful to my clients for sticking with me through the tough times," Nate shares. This experience only strengthened his resolve to maintain his fitness and continue inspiring others.
Looking Ahead: Goals for the Next Year
Nate has big plans for the next 12 months, including expanding his client base, refining his personal training services, and enhancing his digital offerings. He aims to develop a nutrition-focused app and seize the opportunity to deliver master training sessions with Technogym through YOUR PT.
Advice for Aspiring Personal Trainers
When asked why someone should join the fitness industry, Nate emphasizes passion, courage, and self-belief. "You have to be passionate about what you do, brave enough to pursue it, and have faith in yourself to inspire your clients and family."
Nate Gabriel’s journey from the football pitch to the gym floor is a testament to his resilience and dedication to helping others achieve their fitness goals. His story encourages us all to stay determined, embrace new challenges, and always strive to leave a positive impact.
Congratulations, Nate! Your hard work and positivity have truly earned you the title of October's Personal Trainer of the Month.
